EPA Regulations

The Environmental Protection Agency recently set standards on NOx emissions by diesel engines. Due to these new standards, the Selective Catalytic Reduction system (SCR) is the perfect solution for customers considering a more cost-effective, fuel-efficient vehicle emissions control technology.

By 2010, new diesel engines will be required to emit no more than 0.2 grams per brake horsepower hour of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and 0.14 of non methane hydrocarbons (NMHC). As a result, all new diesel powered trucks will have to meet tougher federal diesel emission standards that will reduce allowable nitrogen oxide levels by 90 percent from today and by 96 percent from 1994.

The SCR System

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is one of the most cost-effective and fuel-efficient vehicle emissions control technologies available to reduce diesel engine emissions. In commercial trucking, the ability to reduce emission to near-zero levels while also delivering a 3-5% fuel saving distinguishes SCR as one of the only emissions control technologies that is as good for business as it is for the environment.

SCR technology is designed to reduce NOx emissions by up to 90%, hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions by 50-90%, and particulate matter (PM) emissions by 30-50%.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid

The SCR system requires a liquid solution called Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), which works as a reducing agent that reacts with engine exhaust in the presence of a catalyst to convert smog-forming NOx into harmless nitrogen and water vapor (natural elements common to the air we breathe everyday). Today, CDI-DEF and AirBlueFluids DEF are certified by the American Petroleum Institute, which ensures that Diesel Exhaust Fluid is a stable, non-toxic, and a completely safe solution.

AirBlueFluids will support this new diesel engine market through a national distribution network comprised primarily of large independent petroleum and lubricant marketers. This ABF team brings over 20 years of national petroleum and lubricant distribution experience to this exciting new DEF market. The new ABF team will be supported by their bulk DEF supply partner, Cervantes-Delgado, Inc. (CDI) the largest national independent and exclusive marketer of urea and urea related products for use in SCR and SNCR systems dedicated to the control of NOx emissions from stationary as well as mobile sources.
